VIII Cyber Warfare Conference

Information, Cyber and Hybrid Warfare: content, differences, applications

Now in its eighth year, the National Conference on Cyber Warfare was, as has become traditional, divided into two editions: the one in Rome on July 6, 2017, dedicated to the differences, content and applications of Information, Cyber and Hybrid Warfare and centered on political and military aspects, and the one in Milan on November 28, 2017, still on the same topic but with more reference to economic and industrial issues.

In recent years, major players in the global war scene have begun to invest large sums in so-called cyber space, shifting funds intended for classical kinetic military defense in favor of cyber defense.

This new battlefield actually consists of two fronts, which are often connected to the point of making them difficult to distinguish, but which have peculiarities that it is important to take into account: information warfare and cyber warfare.

The purpose of the lecture will be to try to shed light on these two aspects, showing their characteristics, interactions, and effects on the real world, since they have already manifested themselves and will become increasingly obvious.

The Cyber Warfare Conference (CWC), formerly the Information Warfare Conference (IWC), aims to raise awareness among Italian policy and business decision makers of the growing strategic importance of Cyber Security.

The gradual increase in the frequency of increasingly sophisticated and disruptive cyber attacks makes it a priority to introduce political-strategic, organizational, technological and cultural innovations that can ensure not only the security of critical national infrastructure, but also the protection of companies operating in sectors crucial to the development of the Italian economy.

This year’s event was sponsored by the European Center for Advanced Cyber Security (EUCACS), from the Center for Strategic, International and Entrepreneurial Studies (CSSII) of the University of Florence, from the Institute for Forecasting Studies and International Research (ISPRI) and by the Center for Defense and Security Studies (CESTUDIS), and was designed in agreement with InTheCyber Group – an international leader in auditing & consulting in the field of Information Defense.

Previous editions have received the Medal of the President of the Republic and the Patronages of the Senate of the Republic, Chamber of Deputies, Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Public Administration and Innovation, and State Police.

The Conference enjoyed the collaboration of Net Consulting, CERSA and CLUSIT, the sponsorship of Aizoon – Technology Consulting, Engineering, Ivanti, Trend Micro and under the patronage of: Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Justice and City of Milan.
